Dad stabbed with young daughter in back seat of vehicle in Niagara Falls, teen charged

A teenager is facing charges after an altercation led to a man being stabbed and seriously injured with his six-year-old daughter watching it unfold in the back seat of a vehicle, police in Niagara Falls said.

Officers were notified of a stabbing incident on New Year’s Eve at around 8:30 p.m. in the Victoria Avenue and Centre Street area.

It’s alleged that the male suspect was driving a vehicle with the victim and his 6-year-old daughter in the back seat. A verbal argument between the suspect and victim resulted in a physical confrontation, leading to the man being stabbed.

Police located the victim, a 38-year-old man, suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to an out-of-town hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Authorities noted that the young girl exited the vehicle after witnessing her father being stabbed, with the suspect then speeding off and fleeing the scene. The six-year-old was not physically harmed.

On Wednesday, police located and arrested a 17-year-old male youth from Hamilton. He was charged with aggravated assault and two counts of breach of recognizance. The youth made a virtual court appearance on Thursday. He was not identified by means of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the police.
