1 charged with careless driving after striking pedestrians, including Toronto crossing guard

One person was charged with careless driving following an incident last week in Forest Hill where two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle, including an on-duty crossing guard.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at Eglinton Avenue and Chaplin Crescent near Spadina Road just before 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 7.

Two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle — a man in his 50s and a woman in her 30s. They were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson with the City of Toronto confirmed that one of the pedestrians was an on-duty crossing guard.

“The health and safety of City staff and service providers’ employees is always our top priority,” they said. “We remain in close contact with this crossing guard’s employer to offer our ongoing support during their recovery.”

Police said the driver involved in the collision was charged with careless driving.
