The Cheesiest Website In The World

It’s true. People will watch almost anything on the Internet.
There are sites that can let you view an eagle’s nest, a mountaintop, even a morbid place where you can see a corpse disintegrating in a coffin.
But none of them can hold a candle to what may be the strangest time waster in web history.
It’s called CheddarVision, and it involves a camera locked onto a 44 lbs. piece of cheddar cheese.
That’s all it does.
There are no cartoons, fast moving emoticons or anything at all interesting going on while you watch. It’s simply a big piece of cheese sitting there, getting ripe.
A clock on the side tells you how many days, hours, seconds – and yes, even milliseconds – it’s been since the block went on display.
The site, which was put up by a dairy company in Britain, is admittedly not very interesting. Yet since it went online in January more than 400,000 people have visited the address for a look.
And guess what? It really is true that the cheese stands alone.
But a huge event took place on Thursday. A cheesemaker appeared in camera range, sniffed and tasted the product to see if it was maturing properly, then left the huge block alone again.
Fans worldwide cheered the amazing action, but if you missed it there are no instant replays.
Just a block of cheddar still sitting there, getting older and greyer.
The site’s creator has been astounded by the worldwide response to his bizarre idea of watching cheese ripen. Visitors include people from the U.K., New Zealand, Iceland and Canada.
But you don’t have to rush to see it. The cheese will be up until sometime next January, when its maturation process will be done. After that, the star of the show will be auctioned off for charity.
And then, sadly, it will all be gone and cheese withdrawal will begin across the globe.
We cheddar to think of it.
