The New York Islanders have signed forward John Tavares to a six year, $33 million extension, a source confirmed to Sportsnet.
The 20-year-old Tavares is entering his third season with the club and has totalled 121 points in 161 career games in the NHL.
The Islanders selected Tavares with the first overall pick in the 2009 NHL draft.
