A French-Belgium film screened at the Toronto International Film Festival was apparently was just too much for some members of the audience.

An ambulance had to be called after some scenes of ‘Raw‘ were so graphic that a few people passed out at the Ryerson Theatre on Tuesday morning (the screening had started at 11:59 p.m. on Monday).

The film by first-time director Julia Ducournau tells the tale of a vegetarian student at a veterinary college. She “develops an insatiable lust for flesh as the result of a gruesome hazing ritual, in this grisly and gory tale of a cannibalistic coming of age,” the TIFF website reads.

‘Raw’ premiered at TIFF on Monday night during Midnight Madness, which is known for its shocking films and it attracts fans who know what they’re in for.

The film was first shown at Cannes Film Festival in May and it won a critics’ prize.

It has one more screening at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on Saturday.
