Two former lottery retailers who hold a winning $50-million Lotto Max ticket will have to wait to collect their jackpot.
JoAnn and Gaetan Champagne of Hawkesbury, Ont., will undergo an insider wins review, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. says.
The agency said the two were employed as lottery retailers within the past year, so their claim on the Dec. 31, 2011, jackpot will be reviewed by the OLG and the lottery regulator, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
Under the no play at work policy, which came into effect in 2009, OLG retailers cannot purchase tickets at their place of employment. But they are allowed to play at other retail locations.
The Champagnes owned and operated Jo’s Depanneur in Hawkesbury until October 2011. The winning ticket was purchased at Pharmaprix in Hawkesbury.
The payment of prizes to insiders will be held for 30 days to allow anyone with concerns regarding the prize to come forward, the OLG said.
