Tornado touches down at Sturgeon Lake, Environment Canada confirms

By news staff

Only four millimetres of rain fell at Toronto Pearson on Tuesday, but the midday thunderstorms caused a tornado in the Kawartha Lakes.

Environment Canada confirmed that a tornado touched down at Sturgeon Lake around 3 p.m., near Fenelon Falls.

Videos and pictures posted online show ominous clouds hovering near the ground — slamming into one cottage and destroying a nearby boathouse.

Environment Canada has not said how strong the winds were inside the tornado.
