One woman is dead and five others are hurt after a man walked into Seattle Jewish centre Friday and opened fire.
According to witnesses, the individual allegedly forced his way through the security door at about 4pm, drew a weapon and began randomly firing.
They say before the shots rang out he identified himself as a Muslim American who hates Israel.
Seattle police are calling it a violent hate crime.
Moments after the shooting, 30-year-old Naveed Afzal Haq turned himself over to a SWAT team and was placed under arrest.
Three of the victims, whose names are being withheld, are currently in critical condition. One woman died at the scene.
FBI officials said Haq is a U.S. citizen not from Seattle. He apparently has a lewd conduct charge pending against him in Benton County, located in southeast Washington state.
Following the shooting, police took steps to guard synagogues and mosques around the city, but Mayor Greg Nickels said there was no indication of any follow-up attacks.
Israel and the Hezbollah, made up largely of Muslim Shiites, have been fighting in southern Lebanon since early July, a conflict that began after two Israeli soldiers were kidnapped.
