Rapper Snoop Dogg is in the doghouse again, after being arrested in California on suspicion of illegal drug and gun possession.
Airport police officers stopped Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, Thursday afternoon at a loading zone at Bob Hope Airport for what was said to be a vehicle code violation. When they searched the rapper’s vehicle they reportedly found marijuana and a firearm.
The rapper’s lawyer, Donald Etra, said he didn’t think the incident would turn into anything.
“There was no basis for this arrest,” Etra said in a statement. “We believe that once this is cleared up, all charges will be dismissed.”
Last month, authorities allegedly found a 53-centimetre collapsible baton in the musician’s bags as he boarded a flight to New York from John Wayne International Airport. The Orange County district attorney’s office had reportedly been pondering charges against him since then.
Snoop Dogg was convicted in 1990 of cocaine possession, and three years later police slapped him with a firearm-related charge after finding a gun at a traffic stop.
He pleaded guilty in exchange for three years’ probation and a vow to appear in anti-violence public service announcements.
In 1996, the rapper was acquitted of murder after an alleged gang member was killed by gunfire coming from the vehicle he was travelling in.
