Girls Come Too On Debut Album From East York’s Still Life Still

Still Life Still are a five-piece rock band from East York Ontario.

Thanks to some guidance from Broken Social Scenester Kevin Drew, they are signed to Arts & Crafts and the band’s debut album, Girls Come Too, was released Tuesday by the Toronto label.

The songs, which are melodic and rangy, have in turn reminded some of BSS, a fact the group has mostly chosen to dismiss while preparing to head out on its first-ever tour.

But since SLS made arguably its first major appearance on the cover of Now Magazine during NXNE in June along with Drew, even they know it’s a shadow unlikely to disappear overnight.

Then again, the band didn’t arrive overnight, having grown up together in East York, cutting its teeth playing house parties and local talent nights for the better part of a decade.

And despite its relative youth, the group does have experience being tied to bigger names.

Still Life Still’s first big show was a surprise opening spot for Stephen Malkmus last summer and the band will play with ever-credible The Hold Steady on an upcoming Canadian tour.

Drummer Aaron Romaniuk hopes this album will set Still Life Still on a similar same path towards legitimacy, using sincerity as its primary guide.

“We just want to be really real,” he promises. “Be honest with people.”

Still Life Still celebrates the release of Girls Come Too at The Horseshoe Tavern Friday, Aug. 28 with The Paint Movement, Dinosaur Bones and Boxes And Bags.
