North York synagogue target of anti-Semitic graffiti

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police are investigating after a North York synagogue was sprayed with anti-Semitic graffiti.

The Robbins Hebrew Academy, which is attached to the Beth Tikvah Synagogue, located in the Bayview and Finch avenues area, was vandalized with a red swastika.

Underneath, the words, “Islam will rule” was written in big, black letters.

Police are reviewing security camera footage.

“We’re really shocked and surprised, really disappointed that [in] this cosmopolitan city, this thing could happen,” Harry, who was attending the daily service at the synagogue Friday, said. “It’s just totally uncalled for. Pretty sad story about the people who would think of doing something like this.”

“I think it’s a message to us that I already knew, which is that this type of vandalism is not something that fits in our city,” Rabbi Jarrod Grover at Beth Tikvah Synagogue told 680News.

He said there have been many offers from people and companies to remove the graffiti free of charge, and hopes to have it removed by Saturday.
