Man fatally shot outside of Scotiabank Arena, two suspects sought

Toronto police say a man has died after he was shot outside of Scotiabank Arena on Saturday night.

One man is dead following a shooting outside of Scotiabank Arena on Saturday night which triggered a brief lockdown of nearby Union Station as train and bus services were paused while police searched for suspects.

Constable Alex Li says police got called to the area of York Street and Bremner Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. after receiving several reports of gunfire.

A man was found at the time with life-threatening injuries, but was later pronounced dead at the scene.

CityNews has learned the victim is believed to be in his 20s.

Police say two suspects remain at large, however, no suspect descriptions are available at this time.

Duty Insp. Paul Krawczyk says one of two suspects was seen leaving the area southbound, and a lockdown was put in place when the second suspect was seen running into the station itself.

Krawczyk says officers do not have anyone in custody but believe the shooting was targeted and there is no current risk to public safety.

“I understand that this would be very concerning for the public, to happen at such a public spot … shortly after a Blue Jays game gets out,” said Krawczyk.

Noting the events taking place earlier in the day, including the baseball game and Honda Indy Toronto, police are sure are witnesses in the area who may have dashcam footage or were taking pictures, and they’re asking anyone with information or footage to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

“We are obviously canvassing for video, there’ll be lots of it for this case,” said Krawczyk. “I foresee a successful conclusion to this case, but we’ve got a lot of work to do in the meantime.”

The homicide unit has taken over the investigation.
