Hamilton man, 45, identified after daytime attack in park

A 45-year-old Hamilton man was identified as the city’s latest homicide victim after being critically injured and later dying in hospital from an attack at a local park.

Hamilton police were called to J.C Beemer Park just before 9:30 a.m. on June 22 for reports of an assault.

Officers responded to the park’s pavilion area and provided life-saving measures to a 45-year-old male victim. He was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect fled from the scene but was taken into custody that same day. He was identified as Craig Brooks of no fixed address. The age of the accused was not provided.

On Monday, investigators said the male victim died from his injuries in hospital. With the family’s permission, he was identified as Antonio (Anthony) Beltrano of Hamilton.

Brooks is facing a second-degree murder charge.
