Toronto Metropolitan University’s (TMU) men’s soccer team will continue their season following an investigation by a third party launched due to allegations of concerning behaviour.
A university spokesperson confirmed with CityNews that a report was received several weeks ago alleging concerning behaviour involving the men’s varsity soccer team.
“Given the allegations, the university retained a third party to conduct a thorough and independent investigation,” said Karen Benner. “The investigation has been completed, and the results shared with the university. Based on the findings, the men’s soccer season will proceed as scheduled.”
TMU’s independent student newspaper, The Eyeopener, first reported on the hazing allegations in early September. This led to the university suspending team activities “until further notice,” though TMU never did confirm whether the alleged conduct involved hazing.
Benner said TMU considers this matter resolved.
“In order to protect the privacy and confidentiality of all those involved, the university will not be providing further comment or releasing details of the independent investigation,” she said.
“We wish all players on the men’s soccer team the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
