Woman fatally stabbed by brother in east-end Toronto home: police

A woman has been fatally stabbed inside an east-end Toronto home and a man has been arrested, police officers say.

Toronto police officers have identified a woman who was fatally stabbed in an east-end home, while her brother has been charged with second-degree murder.

Authorities were called to the Scarborough home on Merkley Square, near Orton Park Road and south of Ellesmere Road, just after 4:50 p.m. on Sunday.

Police said a woman was allegedly attacked by the accused with an edged weapon and pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was identified as 54-year-old Dushi Lakshmanan of Toronto. Police said 50-year-old Ragulan Lakshmanan, also of Toronto, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

A spokesperson confirmed with CityNews that the accused and the victim are brother and sister.

Ragulan was expected to appear in court on Monday morning.
