York Regional Police (YRP) officers have identified two male victims who were fatally shot outside a Vaughan home on Wednesday afternoon.
He said emergency crews were called to a home on Kaiser Drive near Martin Grove and Langstaff roads just after 5:30 p.m. with multiple reports of gunshots being fired.
After officers arrived, he said the two victims were found outside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. The two men were subsequently pronounced dead.
“It’s absolutely shocking to the community here and to anyone who may have heard or seen anything. It’s not often that double homicides occur, especially in broad daylight,” Const. Kevin Nebrija said during an update late Wednesday.
Nebrija described the shootings as a “targeted incident,” but didn’t elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the deaths. He said one of the victims lived at the home where the shooting occurred, and the second man lived in the same general area.
On Thursday, the victims were identified as 49-year-old Pasquale Casciato and 34-year-old Christian Belsito, both of Vaughan.
“While it is concerning for us, we do have our homicide investigators looking very much into it to find out who’s responsible and exactly why that happened today,” Nebrija said.
He said there were people inside the home at the time of the shooting, adding there weren’t any known reports that the residence was targeted beforehand.
Nebrija went on to say officers received reports that three males were seen leaving the area in a blue SUV.
At some point Wednesday evening, he said emergency crews were notified about a vehicle found on fire approximately 11 kilometres away from the shooting scene near Huntington and Kirby roads, which is close to the Nashville Conservation Reserve.
Nebrija said there is information suggesting it matches the description of the vehicle reported as leaving the scene, but investigators hadn’t formally connected the two incidents as of Wednesday. He said the vehicle is still being processed by officers.
Meanwhile, Nebrija said investigators are looking for dashcam or surveillance video in the area as part of their ongoing probe.
