The province’s police watchdog has identified a man shot and killed by officers in Hamilton on Monday.
Police shot Phonesay Chanthachak to death around 1 p.m. near Quigley Road and Albright Avenue. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said there was an “interaction” between officers and the 27-year-old after police tried to pull over a vehicle.
Chanthachak was pronounced dead at Hamilton General hospital. An autopsy was scheduled Tuesday morning.
The SIU is called in to probe incidents involving police and civilians that result in serious injuries, death or allegations of sexual assault. The agency has assigned seven investigators and three forensic investigators to the case.
The SIU is asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 416-622-1925 or 1-800-787-8529 extension 1925.
