Storm brings down 20 hydro poles in East Gwillimbury

Woodbine Avenue is closed north of the city after a storm brought down live wires in the area.

About 20 hydro poles fell across a stretch of the road in East Gwillimbury just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Woodbine is shut down between Green Lane and Davis Drive, and access to Garfield Wright Boulevard is also blocked.

York Regional Police said the closure will likely last for about two to three days.

There are reports a tornado may have touched down Thursday in Shelburne, about an hour east of East Gwillimbury, but Environment Canada has not confirmed the sighting.
