A relatively dull weekend at the box office with Neill Blomkamp’s R-rated Chappie ahead of the competition.
Chappie — the movie about a robot with feelings, brought in a timid $13.3 million.
Coming in second was last weekend’s heist film Focus starring Will Smith, grabbing up $10 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates.
While the numbers weren’t through the roof this weekend, their fate was perhaps clouded by recent R-rated releases like Fifty Shades of Grey with some analysts calling it ‘R-rated fatigue’.
But Unfinished Business, starring Vince Vaughn, a business trip COMEDY, also proved dull among movie-goers, bringing in $4.8 million.
That’s the lowest debut in Vaughn’s career, analysts say.
