The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month is when Canada, alongside dozens of other countries, marks Remembrance Day, honouring those who fought for our freedom.
On that day in 1918, an armistice was signed by Germany and the alliance nations, ending hostilities during the First World War.
Today, Remembrance Day not only honours soldiers and military personnel who fought and died in the Great War, but in subsequent wars and conflicts. Canadians also remember those who are serving in current missions around the world.
At various ceremonies and institutions, Canadians will observe two minutes of silence, as they pause to remember and pay their respects.
