Mississauga’s mayor calls comments made about her in a local online publication “reprehensible.”

Bonnie Crombie says she’s filed a hate crime complaint with police after an article claimed she is converting the city into a dangerous Islamic war zone.

In the article published Friday in the Mississauga Gazette, under the headline ‘Bonnie’s Muslims are molesting teenage girls in Mississauga High Schools,’ writer Acton Michaels says the mayor is “importing more Muslims” into the city for her personal wealth and benefit at the expense of “dead daughters for you.”

The article goes on to say that Crombie and “her convicted criminal husband have a gay son between them” and that mayor is helping convert Mississauga to Islam so that they can “kill her son just for being gay.”

In an interview with 680News, Crombie calls the statements reprehensible.

“Racism and homophobia and outright lies, like those allegations against my husband, have no place in civil society and certainly no place in Mississauga,” she says. “Mississauga is a welcoming, warm, tolerant, vibrant and inclusive city.”

“I’ve said in the past that I have no tolerance for intolerance.”

Crombie says she has confirmation from Peel’s police chief that they will be investigating.

The article has since been removed from the website and Michaels, who is listed as the Gazette’s editor-in-chief, posted the following statement in its place:
