Former Attorney General Roger Tasse has died in hospital.
Tasse was considered the architect of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
In 1980, he led a team of Justice Ministry lawyers, helping political leaders reach an agreement on the charter.
He later said the biggest challenge was striking a balance between the protection of individual freedoms and the demands of the common good.
He was 85.
