Durham police are investigating after a fisherman found a woman’s torso at Oshawa Pier.
The grisly discovery was made around 8:30 p.m. on Monday near Simcoe Street South and Harbour Road.
Police, including the marine unit, searched the area on Tuesday. Drones were used along the beach as part of the investigation.
The homicide unit is also investigating.
An autopsy of the torso was carried out in Toronto on Tuesday afternoon.
“Results of the post mortem were inconclusive as far as the cause of death. The death is suspicious and there is evidence of trauma to the victim,” Durham regional police said in an update on Wednesday.
Police say further DNA testing will be conducted in an attempt to identify the victim.
