The family of a young man killed in a triple shooting last weekend are unharmed after shots were fired at them overnight.
Police said the family of 16-year-old Zakariye Ali was walking in the Chester Le Boulevard and Morecambe Gate area, near Victoria Park Avenue and Finch Avenue East, just before 1:30 a.m. on Friday.
It was reported that a male approached them from a distance, pulled up his hoodie and began shooting at the group. Witnesses told police they heard between five to seven shots.
Police said the suspect then fled the area in a white vehicle, possibly a Nissan or a Mazda.
No one was injured in the incident.
A suspect description has not been released.
On Oct. 8, Ali was found in the parking lot of Kingsview Village Junior School, in the Islington Avenue and Dixon Road area, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.
An 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old man were also taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Their identities have not been released.
At the time, Homicide Det. Stephen Matthews said the three victims were not known to police and the shooting is not believed to be connected with the school.
The funeral for Ali is scheduled to take place Friday.
