Toronto police have charged 22-year-old Yostin Murillo in the murder of 41-year-old Rhoderie Estrada.
The mother of three was found dead in her East York home in the early hours of May 26.
Police were called to her home on Torrens Avenue between Broadview and Pape avenues and found the lifeless body of a woman suffering from obvious signs of trauma in one of the bedrooms. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe the murder was committed sometime between 10:30 p.m. Friday night and early Saturday morning.
“Based on the information at this time, we are alleging an unknown person entered the dwelling via the side window and subsequently caused the death of Ms. Estrada” said Detective Sergeant Mike Carbone with Toronto Police’s Homicide Squad.
An autopsy for the exact cause of death was held last Sunday, but police say they will not be releasing the cause of death.
Yostin Murillo, of no fixed address is facing one count of first-degree murder.
Police say there was no relationship between Murillo and the victim.
Carbone says they have an idea of what the suspect’s motive was but will not be sharing that information as he is before the courts.
The suspect was known to police.
Anyone who may have had contact with Murillo before or after the homicide is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
Murillo will appear in court on Monday.
