Oshawa man arrested after fatal hit-and-run near Dufferin and Eglinton

Police have arrested a 27-year-old Oshawa man in connection with an alleged hit-and-run in the city’s west end.
Around 3 p.m. Monday, a 50-year-old woman was cycling on Dufferin Street, near Eglinton Avenue West, when she was struck by a pickup truck going north.
Police said the driver got out of his truck, approached the woman and spoke with her briefly. He then allegedly got back into his truck and sped off.
The woman was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.
Tips from the public helped officers track down the vehicle and suspect in Oshawa on Thursday.
Jesse Petroff faces charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death and failure to stop after an accident causing death.
He is due in a Toronto court for a bail hearing on Friday.
