Pilot killed in helicopter crash in Whitchurch-Stouffville

York police say the pilot of a helicopter has been killed after crashing in Whitchurch-Stouffville.
Emergency crews were called to the scene, a forested area near Warden Avenue and Aurora Road, just after 3 p.m.
The pilot was the sole occupant on the helicopter and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police tell 680 NEWS the crash happened north of the Buttonville Airport after the pilot experienced technical difficulties and lost contact with the airport.
Essential Helicopters of North Bay has confirmed that it was one of their helicopters.
Warden Avenue was closed between St. John’s Sideroad and Aurora Road, but has since reopened.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has taken over the investigation.
