Power Still Out For Some Following Storm

Thousands of people across the province are still without power following Monday night’s destructive windstorm.

According to a spokesperson for Hydro One, nearly 15,000 people are still in the dark – many of them in northern Ontario near Nipissing and Sudbury.

Power has been restored to 155,000 homes thus far, and the utility’s Laura Cooke predicts the remaining outages should be fixed by the weekend barring any unforeseen weather-related delays.

Nearly 1,000 Hydro One employees are devoted to restoring power in the province, moving north as they go.

Monday’s storm, which toppled trees and damaged homes and cars, left a path of destruction 400 kilometres long according to Environment Canada.

The weather service has concluded that not one but two tornadoes touched down in Newmarket that night, causing significant damage.
