Argos Hope To Bounce Back Against Als

It was supposed to be Damon Allen’s triumphant return to action after a long layoff nursing a broken finger, but it ended up being an ignominious home field performance that the Toronto Argonauts are anxious to atone for.

The Argos were lambasted by the B.C. Lions 28-8 in front of a Rogers Centre crowd of 28,356 over the weekend, and although their next opponents are the even-tougher Montreal Alouettes, head coach Pinball Clemons believes Thursday’s game offers his team a great opportunity to turn things around.

“I think we know we have it in tough going against a tough Montreal team,” he admits.   “We know that we’ve got to do a couple of things, one is we have to play disciplined and two, we have to play hard.

“When we look at the game on last Saturday, what we didn’t do…was play disciplined.”

The loss to the Lions was especially disappointing for Allen, who hoped his return to the team would provide a spark.   Allen shouldered much of the blame for the loss.

“Being my first game back and coming off injury, you know, it was really no excuse, there was probably three balls, I would like to take back and I put a lot of responsibility on myself,” he said.

“I can handle whatever pressure that comes along…so I take full responsibility for not putting the ball in the end zone.”

“We have to get back to the drawing board.”
