Five women ended up in hospital on Wednesday after their car slammed into a house in the city’s east end at Birchmount and Lawrence.
The car was heading northbound down Birchmount when it somehow veered off the road, smashing into a hedge and eventually ending up at the corner of the house. When the family came outside, three of the car’s occupants were already getting out.
“All of a sudden, it was like a bomb hitting the house,” said Dave, a houseguest.
“I thought it was coming right through the kitchen. In fact I braced myself, I thought I was going to get hit by something.”
“I was sitting in there having a cup of tea and something to eat, then all of a sudden I had a car delivered.”
All five women were loaded onto stretchers and taken to hospital with minor injuries.
“We helped them out,” Dave adds. “I didn’t know if the car was going to blow up, there was a lot of fumes from different things like the anti-freeze and all of that.”
Witnesses say the accident happened when a cab cut the women off. The cabdriver was given a ticket.
