Russ Adams must have felt like he owed J.P. Ricciardi. And on Wednesday night he took a baby step towards paying the Jays G.M. back for making him the first player he drafted when he took over the clubhouse four years ago.
Adams picked up his first hit since July 14 on Wednesday — a two-run single in the second inning that proved to be the game-winner as the Blue Jays edged the Cleveland Indians, 3-2 at Rogers Centre.
The hit snapped Adams’ brutal 0-16 streak.
“It felt good to be a part of a win,” he said. “I’ve been begging for one here lately. I felt really good in the box tonight and that’s the first time I can say that in a while. It’s kind of been a roller-coaster ride for me.”
Ted Lilly won his 12th game, while Jason Frasor and Brandon League each pitched one perfect inning of relief before B.J. Ryan came in for the ninth to collect his 31st save.
“Ted was fantastic tonight,” said manager John Gibbons, “and our bullpen did a great job.”
“I’m pretty happy about coming out of this with a win,” added Lilly. “I still made some mistakes but I got away with them.”
