Raptors Lose Season Opener

After winning all but one of their exhibition games, the Toronto Raptors hoped to kick off the regular season on a victorious note.   Unfortunately, their new run-and-gun speed game didn’t intimidate Vince Carter’s New Jersey Nets.

Led by Carter, who had 25 points, and Jason Kidd, who recorded his 76 th career double-double, the Nets defeated the Raptors 102-92 Wednesday night.

Kidd turned on the jets in the fourth quarter, scoring eight points, four assists and four rebounds.

Richard Jefferson pitched in with 16 points, while Nenad Krstic and Bostjan Nachbar had 14 points each.

Anthony Parker lead Toronto with 22 points while T.J. Ford, who was acquired in a trade with Milwaukee, added 19 points and seven assists.

Chris Bosh had a poor outing, shooting just 5-for-13 and being called for five fouls.

The game marked the NBA debut of No. 1 overall draft pick Andrea Bargnani of Italy.

He played just under nine minutes, collecting three fouls and just two points.
