A shocking allegation has led to an equally shocking arrest in cottage country – a Barrie mother is accused of killing one of her twin infant daughters.
The case began a year ago, when the Simcoe County Children’s Aid Society took custody of a newborn infant. When they learned the child was one of twins, they began investigating what happened to the other baby.
They told police that the mother wasn’t being cooperative about the birth and Barrie authorities began to wonder why.
“Our officers conducted search warrants as a result of that and unfortunately located a deceased newborn child,” admits Sgt. Dave Goodbrand.
That led to charges against 33-year-old Jody-Ann Lee for neglecting to obtain the assistance of delivering a child and concealing the body of an infant.
But when they brought the infant’s remains into the Hospital for Sick Children for an autopsy a week later, the story changed again.
It’s taken more than a year, but police have found enough evidence to update those charges and accuse the mother of deliberately killing the helpless newborn.
Lee is now facing charges of first degree murder and was in court on Monday.
