Gun violence is rearing its ugly head in the Malvern community as a third shooting is reported there in less than three weeks.
An 18-year-old was taken to hospital Monday night after shots were fired near Neilson Rd. and Sheppard Ave. East just before 10pm.
The victim suffered gunshot wounds to the lower back, and paramedics took him to hospital with what was being described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Police searched Wickson Trail Park and the surrounding area for clues, saying it appeared the man ran to a nearby home after being struck.
Witnesses reportedly saw several black males in dark clothing fleeing the area, but so far there have been no arrests.
It’s the third incidence of gunplay in the community in the last few weeks.
On November 14, 50-year-old Colves Meggoe was shot to death after gunmen entered his home on Horseley Hill Dr., near Neilson and Finch. Two men have since been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the case.
Following that shooting, a 30-year-old man was struck by bullets on Wingarden Ct. in the same area. In that case the victim survived, but no suspects were arrested. Witnesses said they saw two men running toward a van after at least three shots were reportedly fired.
Anyone with information in any of the cases is asked to contact police at 416-808-4204 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
