A four alarm industrial fire near Kipling and Lakeshore caused $300,000 damage and kept fire crews busy Monday evening.
The fire, which took more than an hour to get under control, took place at a stage building company and kept firefighters on the scene for most of the night.
“Initially I thought we could just put it out. It spread pretty fast,” admits employee David Banning.
Banning and a co-worker were the only two employees in the building when it went up in flames. Toronto Fire was called to the industrial unit around 7:00pm.
What started as a two-alarm blaze quickly turned into a four-alarm inferno, bringing over three-dozen units and 100 firefighters to the scene. Not long after crews arrived, part of the roof and a wall collapsed making it harder to fight the flames.
“We are not going to put any firefighters inside,” said a cautious Capt. Mike Strapko. “We haven’t had any injuries and we want to stay that way.”
