It was supposed to a nice day of shopping and relaxation for Athena Stradwick, but Sunday on the town turned into a nightmare in a matter of seconds.
Stradwick returned to pick up her dog at a sitter inside Yorkville’s Hazelton Lanes, and was quickly informed that her beloved pet was long gone.
“The just looked at me and said, ‘Your dog’s gone,'” Stradwick said.
“I said, ‘What do you mean my dog’s gone?'”
The staff at the sitter couldn’t really explain the pooch’s disappearance other than to suggest it ran out when the door was opened for another customer. But it was only when the pet resurfaced that things really got interesting.
Several hours after going missing in Yorkville, Timmy the dog was spotted at Bathurst subway station, running along the tracks.
That’s when Kim Schultz and others came to the rescue.
“The train was starting to come, so a whole bunch of people, like the whole platform, came and started flagging the train down,” Schultz recalled.
And now, miraculously, Stradwick has her dog back, as well as a newfound belief in the kindness of strangers.
“It’s just restored my faith in humanity,” she said.
“I’m so amazed that people were just awesome.”
As much as any dog can be, you can bet Timmy the dog is pretty pleased about it, too.
