TTC Driver Accused Of Making Up Busjacking Story

A TTC bus driver is facing charges for allegedly telling police he was the victim of a bizarre crime that never actually occurred.

Authorities say the transit worker fabricated a story about being the victim of a busjacking that happened on Dec. 30. The driver allegedly told police that an armed man boarded his empty bus and demanded to be driven around town.

The alleged incident was said to have begun around 12:30pm in the Bay and Wellesley area and ended around Queen and Church. The bus driver said there were no passengers on his vehicle at the time.

“It’s not something that happens every day in the city of Toronto,” Toronto Police Det. Gordon Serroul said shortly after the alleged crime last month.

“I can’t recall one where a bus driver was confronted and actually where he was commanded to take the bus on a trip.”

According to published reports, investigators claim the TTC worker made up the strange story to cover up the fact that he was running personal errands on his shift.

Sean Forbes, 32, is charged with mischief and perjury. He’s scheduled to appear in court in March.
