Blue Jays Hammer Philly

Matt Stairs‘ grand slam wasn’t necessary, but it sure was a thing of beauty.

The Canadian back-up outfielder’s eighth-inning blast, the 10th of his career, made the score 13-2 for the Blue Jays late Saturday night, and the game ended with the same margin to even Toronto up with the Philadelphia Phillies two games into their three-game interleague series. Lyle Overbay drove in four runs with a triple and homer run and Troy Glaus also went deep for the Jays, whose offensive onslaught was way too much for the anything Philadelphia had on this night.

On the hill, the Jays continued to get surprisingly strong support for unproven arms, and Shaun Marcum pitched six solid innings in his second start this year after 13 relief appearances, and improved to 2-2 for his efforts. Marcum allowed two runs, four hits and struck out six.
