Teens Stripping Online Worrying Parents

With file sharing sites like YouTube gaining in popularity at unprecedented rates, the threat of young people viewing, and possibly participating in morally questionable activities has also increased.

The University of Toronto is currently conducting research on cyber-bullying and they’ve found that many girls are being forced to strip online.

“They’re being victimized by themselves, because they want a reaction. Clearly, they’re putting themselves at risk,” said Stu Auty, President of the Canadian Safe School Network.

Auty believes teens are putting sexually explicit content of themselves and others on the net more than most parents realize.

“Parents don’t know their children’s world especially with the internet.   It’s very important that parents do know, that they bring themselves up to speed with this technology.”

Dr. Faye Mishna, U of T, believes many young girls are duped into stripping for someone, only to find the content posted online for the world to see.

“Some girls might be pressured by somebody to take their top off and send a picture to somebody, whether it’s a boyfriend or somebody else, and they might do that and then it gets spread all over,” she warns.
