Canada Day celebrations took over Queen’s Park Sunday, and the festivities included a citizenship ceremony that kicked things off at 11am. That was followed by a 21-gun salute and the singing of “O Canada”. The blasts from the cannon were a little much for some who had to plug their ears, but it was still a day for everyone to be proud of the place we call home.
And if the cannons weren’t loud enough, there was a whole line-up of bands belting out the tunes and keeping the party going.
CityNews hit the streets to find out what is it about Canada that makes you proud to be Canadian?
“I’m proud to be Canadian because I’ve gone to a lot of places and there’s just no place like home, and I think it’s great that we have freedom of speech and we’re multicultural. I just love it. I wouldn’t live anywhere else.”
– Carol Townley
“Well I just saw the [Michael Moore] movie Sicko the other day so right now I love the free health care coverage that we have here.”
– Adam Faigen
I love the fact that anyone can be here. Bascially, it’s a cutltural mosaic. It’s not a melting pot like our American buddies like to call it. I like that we can all keep our identity and at the same time be called Canadians.”
– Jocelynn Prowse
