Comedy Festival Comes To T.O. Just For Laughs

It’s a Montreal tradition, but a famously funny festival that hails from the self-proclaimed “funniest place on earth,” will be hitting Hogtown hard over the weekend.
Drew Carey Show alum turned late night talk host Craig Ferguson will host the closing gala for the festival Saturday, but Just For Laughs kicked off in Toronto Thursday night and before it’s all over, the veteran comedian says he’s looking forward to the tame T.O. taunts.
“It’s lovely to be heckled by Canadians who can kind of heckle in a positive way,” Ferguson, host of “The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson,” said.
“You know, like, `Hey buddy, that’s not bad!” and, “Hey, sorry to interrupt but there’s a two-for-one drink thing that they’ve got going on in this club that’s actually reasonable!’ It’s a lovely thing.”
The who’s who of Canadian comedy will also feature Russell Peters, Greg Giraldo, Tom Papa, Derek Edwards and Elvira Kurt.
But of course a silly spectacle of such proportions garnered plenty of big names from here and abroad, and scheduled indoor gala shows were also set around the side-splitting works of “Deal Or No Deal” host Howie Mandel, “Daliy Show” vet Lewis Black, and a cast of comedy’s “ethnic heroes,” a list which includes Canadian acts Sugar Sammy and the Doo Wops.
