New Post-Workout Drink May Surprise You

What does your post workout routine include? The sauna and water? Stretching and Gatorade? It may be time to switch to a drink that does a body good – milk.

A study published in the American Journal of Medical Nutrition found that is was the protein in milk that helped most. Exercisers gained more muscle, and lost more fat, when they had milk instead of any other drink. The other two drinks in the study were soy milk and a sports beverage.

All participants in the study were male, and it is not known how milk would affect females trying to lose weight. The men lifted weights and performed other types of resistance exercise. They did not perform any aerobic exercise in the study.

The US Dairy Council partially funded the study.
