While hundreds of motorists traveling eastbound on the Gardiner spent a good portion of their Monday morning commute either stuck in traffic or trying to avoid the backlog from a fatal overnight crash, a second major collision occurred just off the highway.
It was around 7am when a car ended up on its roof after colliding with another vehicle on the Queensway at Park Lawn. Police said the woman behind the wheel was trapped but luckily was wearing her seatbelt and managed to crawl out unscathed. Other than being shaken up, she’s unharmed.
“Luckily the female driver was wearing a seatbelt, it saved her from further injury,” explained Const. Simone Toyne. “She managed to free herself and crawl out of the vehicle which is remarkable. The other vehicle stayed on its wheels and no one was hurt at all.”
Police are still determining the cause of the crash, looking at the effect the rising sun may have had, as well as the extra-heavy traffic.
