Bollywood Stars Mobbed In Toronto

They’re known as  Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan and if they’re not household names to you, they are to literally millions of fans around the world. India’s biggest Bollywood stars were in Toronto Friday to announce something called the “Unforgettable Tour”. It’s a show dedicated to bringing “the magic of Indian cinema to the world stage through performances by Bollywood’s hottest superstars.”  And the couple will be the main attractions.

If the turnout Friday at the Fairmont Royal York was any indication, the show can’t miss. The pair was mobbed by fans as they made their way inside the famed inn, hyping the coming event which won’t actually hit Toronto until the summer of 2008.

“The idea and the concept behind the “Unforgettable Tour” was to entertain primarily and secondly to get in touch with the vast audience that enjoys Indian cinema across the globe,” Abhishek Bachchan explains. “I really feel with the lineup of the actors we have on this world tour, I hope that we will be able to reach out and connect with the millions and millions of fans that we have across the globe that make us what we are.”

Premier Dalton McGuinty took advantage of the photo op to make his own request. “If I could even get a small part in one of your films, I could greatly increase my popularity – so long as I didn’t have to dance because that would finish my career!”

The couple chose Toronto for the premiere, crediting the multicultural city’s many Bollywood fans. But the T.O. leg of the tour will be just the beginning. It’s slated to also make stops in Cairo, London, Singapore, New York, Los Angeles and Sydney.

But those who are true fans are thrilled we’ll get to see it first.
