From the midway to the air show, the CNE is a southeastern Ontario tradition almost 150 years in the making, and on Monday evening it wrapped up for another summer.
The Ex’s mascot hugged a few last visitors around 7pm on Labour Day, and with the final batches of mini doughnuts being gobbled up by the lingering faithful, the unofficial end of summer officially set on the GTA.
And of course the closing of the Ex and the passing of Labour Day doesn’t just mean an end to the good times and long nights of summer, it also means the next day it’s time for students across the province to hear those dreaded words: back to school.
In the meantime, CNE officials are basking in what the say is one of the Exhibition’s most successful years ever. It’s estimated more than 1.3 million people came to the fairgrounds this year.
