He’s baaaaack.
A former CFL star is playing pigskin north of the border again, only this time he’ll be hauling in catches a little further east than what he’s used to.
The Toronto Argonauts officially extended slotback Marc Boerigter‘s stay in the CFL Tuesday, inking the former NFLer a little more than a week after he was cut by the Calgary Stampeders.
It’s been a rollercoaster season for the lanky receiver, who returned to the CFL amid much press and fanfare when he signed with Calgary in the off-season, but was released on Aug. 26 after speculation knee surgery had taken away his once lethal speed.
Boerigter hauled in just 16 catches for 246 yards and a touchdown before he was cut, a far cry from the 63 catches for 1,092 yards and eight TDs he had as a rookie before adding 48 receptions for 931 yards and a CFL-high 11 TDs in 2001.
During his years in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs, Boerigter appeared in 41 games and had 39 catches for 777 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had a brief stint with the Green Bay Packers.
The hope in Toronto is that he’ll give a boost to an largely ineffective offence that has Toronto second from the bottom in the East.
