Jays Rock Red Sox

Frank Thomas blasted three homeruns and Dustin McGowan pitched a gem to help lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a commanding 6-1 win over the playoff-bound  Boston Red Sox on Monday night.

Thomas now stands tied for 18th on the all-time homerun list.  Two of his dingers came off Tim Wakefield, with the last coming off reliever Kyle Snyder.  At night’s end he had 25 homeruns on the season, living up to expectations that he would inject some much-needed muscle into the starting lineup.

While Thomas was cracking balls, McGowan was tossing them past befuddled Boston batters.  He retired nine straight to start the game with his fastball reaching speeds of up to 98mph.  After Mike Lowell’s RBI double in the fourth, he retired the next 12 batters.

He finished the game with nine strikeouts, offering fans a glimpse of great things to come.
