Canadian Reportedly Among 89 Killed In Jet Crash In Thailand

A 31-year-old Canadian woman may have been killed in a plane crash in Thailand on Sunday.
Larisa Fayad from Vancouver was listed on the passenger’s manifest and is not among the 41 confirmed survivors. Her father said she’s on the victims’ list but he has no confirmation. Fayad was a technical lighting director with a local dance troupe.
Her friends are reeling from her loss. “I feel horrible,” admits Jonathan Ryder. “It’s hard to speak. She’s not around. There’s going to be a lot of people missing her professionally because she was just starting to take off as a lighting designer. She assisted a lot of the good and experienced designers in town.”
Eighty-nine people were killed when the jetliner skidded off the runway and caught fire during landing.
There’s word half of the systems used to detect wind shear at the southern Thai airport were not working at the time of the jet crash.
The budget One-Two-Go Airlines flight was carrying 123 passengers and seven crew members from Bangkok to Phuket. That’s when the aircraft caught fire and engulfed some passengers in flames.
A woman from Prince George, B.C. survived.
