The Baltimore Orioles avoided a three-game sweep with an 8-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in a meaningless game between two non-contenders Thursday.
In wasn’t meaningless to Luis Hernandez though. On the contrary, it was a night he’ll likely remember for the rest of his life, hitting his first major league homer in the sixth inning to give the O’s the lead.
“I just tried to hit the ball hard so (a runner could) score from second, and I hit the ball very good,” Hernandez said. “But I never thought it would go that far.”
Jay Payton and J.R. House also homered for the Orioles, who blew a four-run lead before rallying to win.
