Mats Sundin set two franchise records as the Toronto Maple Leafs smoked the visiting New York Islanders 8-1 on Thursday night, just two days after falling 7-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Sundin earned his 390th goal and 917th point to break the club records he’d shared with Darryl Sittler.
Nik Antropov, Ian White, Tomas Kaberle, Matt Stajan, Alex Steen, Simon Gamache and Andy Wozniewski scored the other Toronto goals, while Matt Stajan and Darcy Tucker each had three assists.
Ruslan Fedotenko scored the lone marker for the shell-shocked Isles.
Leafs goalie Andrew Raycroft recorded the win between the pipes.
At the other end of the ice the Leafs punished Wade Dubielewicz, whose stellar play in the closing days last season deprived the Leafs of a playoff berth. He looked anything but stellar Thursday night, though, as Leafs applied a steady stream of offensive pressure.
